Key takeaways
  • PrestaShop has modules for Meta and for Tag Manager. A server container adds control and other platforms.
  • Make sure the order confirmation event fires once with value, currency and order ID.
  • Use a shared event ID and test with Meta Test Events.

PrestaShop is common in Europe and Latin America, with many small and mid-size stores. Its module system means there are several ways to add tracking, and not all of them are equal. This page describes the two sensible routes and the details that decide whether purchases are counted correctly. Module names and features change, so check your module's documentation. See how to set up the Conversions API and Meta Conversions API vs Pixel.

Route 1: a Meta module

Meta and third-party developers offer PrestaShop modules that add the pixel and send server events. They are quick to install and usually cover standard e-commerce events. Check that the module sends an event ID with each event, that it supports your PrestaShop version and that it respects your consent tool.

Check your setup

Check your tracking in one pass

This is an example. Run the check on your own site to see where yours stands.

Route 2: a Tag Manager module and a server container

1

Install a Tag Manager module

One that adds the container and an e-commerce data layer.

2

Check the data layer on the order confirmation page

The purchase event with transaction ID, value, currency, items and, with consent, customer data.

3

Send to your tagging subdomain

Set the server container URL.

4

Add the Meta tag in the server container

With dataset ID, token and the shared event ID.

5

Switch off the module's server events

So Meta does not get two copies.

PrestaShop details

  • The order confirmation page is rendered after payment, and some payment modules redirect in ways that skip it. Test each payment method.
  • Guest checkout and account checkout use different customer data. Check both.
  • Multi-shop and multi-currency set-ups need the right currency per order.
  • Cache and optimisation modules can store a page without the data layer.

What Open Tracked adds

Open Tracked hosts the server container for you, from a free plan. Cookie Keeper, the Data Store, Enricher, File Proxy, Bot Detection, Visitor Location and Device Info are available on every plan. A PrestaShop-specific module for Open Tracked is not available yet, so you use a Tag Manager module for the data layer.

Test

  1. Place a test order with each payment method.
  2. Check the data layer and server Preview.
  3. Check Meta Test Events.
  4. Compare Meta purchases with PrestaShop orders for a week.

A realistic example

A PrestaShop store in Spain sells through card payments and bank transfer. Its Meta report shows far fewer purchases than its orders. The team discovers that bank transfer customers never return to the confirmation page after paying, so no browser event fires. It adds a server event triggered by the payment confirmation, with the order ID as the event ID, and keeps the browser event for card payments. Meta now sees both, deduplicates those that arrive twice and counts the transfer orders for the first time. The gap between Meta and the shop narrows sharply, and the team learns that payment methods are a common hidden cause of missing purchases.

For online stores

Orders from your store, back to the ad that earned them

Your store sends the order once. Open Tracked passes it on to each ad platform, cleaned and deduplicated.

Frequently asked questions

Does PrestaShop support the Meta Conversions API?

Yes, through Meta modules, or through Tag Manager with a server container.

Why are some PrestaShop purchases missing?

Some payment methods do not return the customer to the confirmation page. Send the purchase from the server on payment confirmation.

How do I avoid double purchases?

Use one server route and a shared event ID.

Which currency is sent?

The order currency. Check this for multi-currency stores.

Is there an Open Tracked module for PrestaShop?

Not yet. Use a Tag Manager module for the data layer and Open Tracked for the server container.

Do I need spreadsheets to read my results?

No. Once tracking is live, the Open Tracked analytics shows spend, revenue, ROAS and profit, and you can ask Ari, the built-in AI assistant, questions about your own numbers in plain words. Ari's allowance depends on your analytics plan.

Is Open Tracked different from Open Track or Open Space Track?

No. Open Tracked is the official name of our server-side tracking platform, and the website is opentracked.io. Many people search for it as Open Track, OpenTrack or Open Space Track. All of them lead to the same product: server-side Google Tag Manager hosting, first-party analytics and a CRM pipeline.

Fix your tracking at the source

Open Tracked hosts your server-side Tag Manager, keeps first-party cookies alive and shows what each ad is really worth.
