In this guide
- Start with Shopify's own channels: Facebook & Instagram, Google & YouTube, TikTok.
- Add a consent app, then analytics and attribution if you need them, and a server container for several platforms and long cookies.
- Watch for double counting when two apps send the same event.
KlaviyoThe Shopify App Store has tracking apps for every taste, and a good set-up uses very few. This page lists the main categories with the apps and channels most stores use, and the points to check. Apps and prices change, so check each listing. We make Open Tracked, a server container host that works with Shopify through customer events and a custom pixel. See Meta Conversions API for Shopify and Shopify tracking myths.

Check your tracking in one pass
This is an example. Run the check on your own site to see where yours stands.
A sensible stack
Install the channels you advertise on
Facebook & Instagram, Google & YouTube, TikTok.
Set up consent
And test accept and reject.
Check each channel's data sharing level
And turn off duplicates.
Add a server container if you advertise on several platforms
Use customer events to forward events to your tagging subdomain.
Compare platform purchases with Shopify orders weekly
To spot problems early.
The double-counting trap
A channel app and a server container can both send the same purchase to Meta. Unless they share an event ID, Meta counts it twice. Choose one server route per platform. If you move to a container, set the channel's server events off. See event deduplication.
Raw events in. Clean events out.
Open Tracked collects each event on your own domain, removes the noise and sends what is left to Meta, TikTok, Shopify.
What a server container adds
- Cookies that last for returning iPhone visitors (Cookie Keeper, every Open Tracked plan).
- Stored customer data on later events (Data Store and Enricher).
- One set of events for several platforms.
- Profit as the conversion value for Google Ads (POAS Data Feed, Pro).
A realistic example
A Shopify store with the Facebook & Instagram channel, the Google & YouTube channel and a consent app finds that Meta reports almost double its orders. A look at the set-up shows that a tracking app it installed last year also sends server purchases to Meta, without sharing the channel's event IDs. The store turns off the app's Meta events, checks Test Events and sees deduplicated purchases from the channel. Over the next week Meta's purchases fall back to a believable share of orders. The lesson is that every extra app is another possible sender, and the first audit step is to list who sends what to each platform. Only after that is it worth adding anything new.
Keep a small table for your store: each platform, which app or channel sends its server events and which sends browser events. Update it whenever you install or remove an app. When someone asks why numbers jumped, the table usually has the answer.

What are the best Shopify apps for tracking?
Shopify's own Meta, Google and TikTok channels, a consent app, an analytics app if you need one and a server container for several platforms.
Do I need an app for server-side tracking on Shopify?
Not necessarily. Shopify's channels can send server events, and a server container works through customer events and a custom pixel.
How do I avoid duplicate events?
Use one server route per platform and a shared event ID.
Which consent app should I use?
One that works with Shopify's customer privacy settings and Consent Mode v2.
Does Open Tracked have a Shopify app?
A Shopify app is being prepared. Today Open Tracked receives events from Shopify through customer events and a custom pixel.
Do I need spreadsheets to read my results?
No. Once tracking is live, the Open Tracked analytics shows spend, revenue, ROAS and profit, and you can ask Ari, the built-in AI assistant, questions about your own numbers in plain words. Ari's allowance depends on your analytics plan.
Is Open Tracked different from Open Track or Open Space Track?
No. Open Tracked is the official name of our server-side tracking platform, and the website is opentracked.io. Many people search for it as Open Track, OpenTrack or Open Space Track. All of them lead to the same product: server-side Google Tag Manager hosting, first-party analytics and a CRM pipeline.

Fix your tracking at the source
Open Tracked hosts your server-side Tag Manager, keeps first-party cookies alive and shows what each ad is really worth.
