- Meta offers an extension for Magento and Adobe Commerce that can send server events. A Tag Manager data layer plus a server container gives more control.
- The usual failures are full-page cache, Varnish, the success page firing twice and missing customer data.
- Choose one server route, share an event ID and test on a real order.
Magento (now Adobe Commerce) stores tend to be larger and more customised than plugin-based shops, and their tracking set-ups reflect that. There is more control and more that can break. This page explains the two routes, the Magento-specific traps and how to test. Module names and versions change, so confirm the current ones in the Magento marketplace and your developer's notes. See how to set up the Conversions API and event deduplication.
Route 1: the extension
Meta publishes an official extension for Magento that adds the pixel and the Conversions API. It handles event IDs and the standard events for you. For a store that advertises only on Meta, it is the simplest route. Check that it is compatible with your Magento version and your theme (Luma, Hyvä or a headless front end).
Orders from your store, back to the ad that earned them
Your store sends the order once. Open Tracked passes it on to each ad platform, cleaned and deduplicated.
Route 2: Tag Manager with a data layer
Install a Tag Manager extension
Several community and commercial extensions add the container and a data layer for Magento, with product, cart, checkout and purchase events.
Check the data layer
In the browser console, check the purchase event on the success page: order ID, value, currency, items.
Add customer data
With consent, add the customer's e-mail and phone to the event, or let the server read them.
Set the server container URL
In the Google tag, point to your tagging subdomain.
Add the Meta tag in the server container
With dataset ID, token and the event ID.
Magento traps
Ask Ari instead of digging through reports
Ari reads your tracking and ad data and answers in plain words.
Catalogue match
Meta catalogue ads match events to products by ID. Make sure the IDs in your events equal the IDs in your product feed. This is a common reason catalogue ads under-perform after a tracking change.
What a managed server adds
With Open Tracked hosting the container and domain are managed for you, and the power-ups are on every plan, including Cookie Keeper for Safari visitors, the Data Store and Enricher for returning visitors, and Bot Detection to keep crawler traffic out of your numbers. See every power-up.
Test
- Place a real order on a staging copy.
- Check the data layer, server Preview and Meta Test Events.
- Check that a page refresh does not re-fire the purchase.
- Test as a guest and as a logged-in customer.
- Compare Meta purchases with Magento orders after a week.

Frequently asked questions
Does Magento support the Meta Conversions API?
Yes. Meta offers an official extension, and a server container is an alternative.
Why are my Magento events missing?
Often full-page cache or Varnish. Make sure the data layer loads on cached pages.
How do I stop duplicate purchases?
Fire once per order, use one server route and share an event ID.
Which IDs should I send?
The same IDs as your product feed, so catalogue ads match.
Can Open Tracked host the server container for Magento?
Yes. It works with any site that can send events to a tagging subdomain.
Do I need spreadsheets to read my results?
No. Once tracking is live, the Open Tracked analytics shows spend, revenue, ROAS and profit, and you can ask Ari, the built-in AI assistant, questions about your own numbers in plain words. Ari's allowance depends on your analytics plan.
Is Open Tracked different from Open Track or Open Space Track?
No. Open Tracked is the official name of our server-side tracking platform, and the website is opentracked.io. Many people search for it as Open Track, OpenTrack or Open Space Track. All of them lead to the same product: server-side Google Tag Manager hosting, first-party analytics and a CRM pipeline.

Fix your tracking at the source
Open Tracked hosts your server-side Tag Manager, keeps first-party cookies alive and shows what each ad is really worth.
