Lead acquisition

Good lead acquisition is a pipeline: attract, capture, qualify, follow up and feed the result back to your ads.

Key takeaways
  • A lead pipeline has five steps: attract, capture, qualify, follow up and feed results back to your ad platforms.
  • Judge channels by cost per qualified lead and cost per customer.
  • Speed to lead often matters more than the ad.

Lead generation looks simple on a dashboard: spend, leads, cost per lead. The trap is that leads differ enormously in value. This page gives a practical pipeline that small teams can run, and how to keep the data honest. It builds on Facebook lead ads, lead quality in GA4 and offline conversions.

1. Attract

  • Search for people with intent.
  • Social and video for people who have not yet looked.
  • Content and e-mail for people who are researching.
  • Referrals and partners, tracked with UTMs.

2. Capture

ChoiceEffect
Short formMore leads, lower quality
Longer form with qualifying questionsFewer leads, higher quality
Booking calendarHighest intent, fewer leads
Click-to-call or chatFast contact, needs staff time

At capture, save the identifiers you need later: click IDs, hashed e-mail and phone, source and campaign, consent. See CRM data to Meta with webhooks.

3. Qualify

Decide what a good lead is: budget, need, timing, location. Use a few form questions and a quick call or message. Mark each lead as qualified or not. This single field drives the best optimisation you can do.

Data in, clean out

Raw events in. Clean events out.

Open Tracked collects each event on your own domain, removes the noise and sends what is left to Meta, Google Ads, TikTok.

4. Follow up

  • Respond in minutes, not days.
  • Use a clear script and a short sequence of e-mail or SMS.
  • Track who answers and who books.

5. Feed results back

Send qualified and won stages to Google Ads and Meta so they learn what a good lead looks like. A tagging server on your own subdomain receives the stages from your CRM and forwards them. Open Tracked's CRM pipeline holds lead stages and sends them to Meta and Google Ads as offline conversions, and its tagging server receives webhooks from other CRMs.

A realistic example

A training provider runs Meta lead ads and pays $12 a lead, but its sales team says half the leads never answer. It adds a qualifying question to the form, changes its follow-up so that every lead gets a call or message within ten minutes, and sends "booked a call" and "enrolled" back to Meta. Leads fall by a third, bookings per lead double and cost per enrolment drops. The sales team is happier because the leads are better. The point of the pipeline is that each step has an owner and a measure, and that the result at the end flows back to the start, so the platforms learn what the business actually wants.

Frequently asked questions

How do I generate better leads?

Attract with intent, qualify at the form, follow up fast and send qualified stages back to your ad platforms.

What is a qualified lead?

A lead that meets your criteria for a good prospect, such as budget, need and timing.

How fast should I respond?

Within minutes.

Which metric should I optimise?

Cost per qualified lead and cost per customer, not cost per lead.

How do I send lead quality to Google and Meta?

As offline conversions from your CRM, with the identifiers saved at the form.

Do I need spreadsheets to read my results?

No. Once tracking is live, the Open Tracked analytics shows spend, revenue, ROAS and profit, and you can ask Ari, the built-in AI assistant, questions about your own numbers in plain words. Ari's allowance depends on your analytics plan.

Is Open Tracked different from Open Track or Open Space Track?

No. Open Tracked is the official name of our server-side tracking platform, and the website is opentracked.io. Many people search for it as Open Track, OpenTrack or Open Space Track. All of them lead to the same product: server-side Google Tag Manager hosting, first-party analytics and a CRM pipeline.

Fix your tracking at the source

Open Tracked hosts your server-side Tag Manager, keeps first-party cookies alive and shows what each ad is really worth.
